Pressing the shutter on 2023

I can’t believe we are approaching the close of 2023. The year started off with a new camera in the Leica Q2 and it has been an amazing year with it. I have noticed a change in my images and it certainly has suited my shooting style, getting in close and having subjects dominant in the composition. I have printed my images in the last few months, it has been interesting to see them in a physical form and appreciate the quality, enhanced by texture and tones you don’t see in an electronic image. This has helped me in the editing of images, but also acknowledging that some images just don’t work on a screen but will in print.

I have had the opportunity to photograph at home and abroad, making images in Glasgow, Belfast, Aberdeen, Dundee, Belgium, oh Belgium I’ll come back to that, Poland, and even parts of England.

So Belgium, one of my special moments was a visit to the photography museum which I’ve spoken about in another blog go check it out. The images were stunning and probably the prompt I needed to get printing. I’ve taken in other galleries locally with the Simon Murphy “Govanhill” exhibition being another highlight.

I signed up for a documentary photography course in Belfast in December, unfortunately it was cancelled but I had a couple of days in the city anyway.

What about 2024, well I have signed up for the Dublin Street Photography Festival in May 2024 with workshops booked with Brendan Comey and Kevin Lim. That’s the photography highlight so far but I am booked for Portugal in January and July which is always a treat and I’m sure I’ll be out and about plenty in between.

I am always keen to make photographic connections, please do reach out and say hi, arrange a coffee and photo walk, or speak to me about photo project ideas.

For now, all that is left is for me to wish you all the very best for 2024 and leave you with a selection of my favourite images from 2023. Happy New year folks!!
